About the Event |
Dirk Homeier, age 41, an avid cyclist and Guiness World Record Holder from Chatham, IL was in a serious bicycle
accident while riding with friends on February 2,2012 in Springfield, IL. His injuries included: multiple facial
lacerations and fractures, Grade 3 liver laceration, cervical artery dissection, and brain injury. He spent 2 weeks
between the ICU and acute rehab at Memorial Medical center, and has recently been released to continue his long "Road to Recovery" at home, surrounded by his family.
Dirk is the husband to Sarah, and father of 6 beautiful children. Dirk and Sarah are very active in the fostering
community, and have foster, adopted and biological children. They are former members of West Side Christian
Church and current members of Cherry Hills Baptist Church. They are very active in several ministry projects and are founders of the newly established 'James Project', a not-for-profit agency helping provide for foster families' needs.
Dirk is Self-Employed and due to the nature of his brain injury, he is currently unable to work and provide for his
family. ALL proceeds of this fundraiser will go directly to the family.
