  • Course Marshals
    April 21st, 2012 at various locations on the course route.
    Responsible for helping to ensure the safety of the athletes during the race by staffing various intersections on the route.

    Various duties to include: distribution of Mylar blankets as well as medals.

  • Gear Check

    Assist runners in the check in and retrieval of their  gear.

  • Finish Line Operations
    April 21st, 2012 at the Finish Line
    The build out and tear down of the Finish Line and Runner Recovery area.

  • Guest Services
    April 20th - 21st, 2012 at the Monon Center and the Center Green
    Help direct and assist the public as well as the participants by providing general information on both the race as well as the city of Carmel.

  • Ham Radio Operators
    Race Day - assist in medical tents as radio operators.

  • Packet Pick-up
    April 20th - 21st, 2012 at the Monon Center
    Assist in the distribution of bibs, race t-shirts and other race information to the participants.

  • Post-Race Party
    April 21st, 2012 at the Center Green
    Assisting all vendors who will be setting up booths in the Center Green area for the Post Race Party.

  • Pre-Race Packet Stuffing
    April 16th - 17th, 2012 at the Monon Center
    Assembly of the timing chip, bib, course map, race day questions, and other pieces of needed information into the runner's packet. 
    Please note - this committee meets prior to the race and NOT race morning.

  • Results Tent
    April 21st, 2012 at the Center Green
    Assist the runners by giving out their unofficial time.

  • Runner Recovery

    Hand out food and refreshments at the Finish Line to the participants.

    Assist in hanging signs for the Expo as well as the Finish Line

    Serve as host to the Salon 01 Hospitality Area.

    Run errands for event, including pick up and delivery of volunteer food, athlete or VIP transportation, lead vehicle drivers.

    Greet and check-in volunteers in an area restricted to working volunteers only as well as provide amenities and up to date information to race volunteers.

Welcome Volunteers!

Join us on April 21st, 2012 for the 2nd annual Carmel Marathon Championship Weekend. This year's event will once again feature a marathon, half marathon, Championship 8k as well as a Family Fitness 1 mile walk.

Approximately 500 volunteers will be needed to fill shifts during the Championship Weekend. Please take time to review our many volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Requirements


  • Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older by April 17th, 2012; however, an exception will be made for those young adults volunteering as part of an organized and supervised group.
  • Volunteers must wear the volunteer t-shirt that is provided to them.
  • Children, family, friends or pets are NOT allowed to accompany the volunteer while working their volunteer shift.

Restrictions List

Restriction codes are noted for each volunteer option on the registration page.

1. Heavy lifting and physical labor may be required for this committee.
3. Volunteers on this committee should be familiar with the city of Carmel and surrounding areas.
4. Must enjoy interacting with the public.
5. Some light lifting may be required for this committee.
6. Volunteers on this committee may be assigned to remote areas of the course
7. Must be able to stand for long periods of time in the sun.
8. Voiunteers on this committee must be able to multi-task and have good communication skills
9. Mandatory training may be required for this committee.
10. Volunteers on this committee must be 25 by April 17th, 2012 as well as have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Volunteer Guidelines


  • We depend on your commitment to participate. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your shift and plan to stay at your volunteer post until your replacement arrives.
  • Be a "Goodwill Ambassador" for the city of Carmel and the surrounding metropolitan area.
  • If you should need to change or cancel your shift, please email Gee Lawton at gee@carmelmarathon.com.
  • Please do not let rain stop you from coming - we still need you!
