Race Cap:

Pace Requirement:
The pace requirement for each competing athlete running the relay is 13:44 minutes per mile. (Approximately a 6-hour marathon).

Why enforce a pace requirement?
a) Safety
The safety of all competing athletes is our top priority. A pace requirement keeps athletes accountable with themselves, ensuring that teams and individuals are ready and physically capable of completion. A pace requirement of 13:44 minutes per mile is the recommended minimum athletic level of each runner in all participating teams.

b) Permit Limitations
The park permit allows the event to continue for a set duration, and we have to setup, host the event and tear down within this given time frame. A pace requirement will allow us to work within these limitations that are dictated by permit constraints. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Teams and Transition Area
A team is composed of 5 runners. Teams may bring their own tent or canopies, provided that they do not exceed 10x10 feet. If your team has a tent with a commercial logo, please email gptrailrelay@gmail.com as there may be a corresponding fee per our permit agreement with the park.

Legs:
All 5 runners will run the exact same loop.

Transition Area
The transition area is where the incoming runner hands-off the baton to the next runner. Because of this, the area will be big enough to allow a running start. This will be a strictly monitored area and only outgoing runners will be allowed to wait within the transition area. Your bibs will have your corresponding relay leg written on it. This will help monitors identify which runners to allow into the area.

Timing
Timing will start as soon as the first runner crosses the start line and will cease when the 5th runner finishes the race. The timing chip is attached to the baton.

8k runners will have the chip attached to their bib. Please don't fold or bend where the chip is located to ensure accurate timing.
